The buzz about HBO’s upcoming ‘Boardwalk Empire’ gets louder as the Sunday, Sept. 19, series premiere grows closer. To celebrate the series — which is set in Atlantic City at the dawn of Prohibition — the Atlantic City Free Public Library will offer several outstanding programs with that era in city history in mind. Local historian Nelson Johnson, whose book 'Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City' inspired the HBO series, will appear at the Main Library from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, for a book talk. He will discuss the research that went into the book, the events and pivotal figures from that era, and he’ll answer questions from the public and autograph copies of his book.

Heston Collection of Atlantic City history and provided insight and direction for the film-makers.
